Ihsaan Bassier

Ihsaan Bassier is a lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Economics at the University of Surrey. His work follows a research agenda on firm wage-setting power in the fields of labour and development, mostly using administrative data. This includes estimating labour supply elasticities, collective bargaining spillovers (R&R at JEEA), and the interaction between monopsony power with structural development. Hiswork has been accepted at the Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Human Resources, and Journal of Development Economics.

He is affiliated to the Centre for Economic Performance at the LSE,  where he worked as a postdoc with Alan Manning. he is also an affiliate of SALDRU at the University of Cape Town, where he has conducted policy work for the South African presidency. He received my PhD (Sept. 2017-2022) from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, under his primary advisor Arindrajit Dube.
