Marcel Timmer is a member of the Groningen Team. Timmer is a Professor of Economic Growth and Development in the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Groningen and the Director of the Groningen Growth and Development Centre (GGDC). His expertise is in economic growth and development, trade, productivity measurement and international comparisons. He is currently leading a large research programme funded by the Dutch Science Foundation, titled “Modelling Global Value Chains: a new framework to study trade, jobs and income inequality in an interdependent world”. He directed the development of major research databases on structural change, including the GGDC 10-sector database, the World Input-output Database, World KLEMS productivity database and the Penn-World Tables. He has been a consultant and advisor for organisations such as the OECD, the World Bank and Asian Development Bank. He is also the lead author of the book Economic Growth in Europe published in 2010 by Cambridge University Press. He has published extensively in journals including the American Economic Review, Review of Economics and Statistics, Economic Journal, Journal of Economic Perspectives, Journal of Development Economics, Economic Policy and the Journal of Economic History.
